Final Fantasy 16 would be exclusive to PS5 for at least 6 months

Sony may have leaked some very important information about one of the upcoming flagship titles in the Final Fantasy franchise. Final Fantasy 16 would only be a PlayStation 5 exclusive for six months.

Since its reveal, we’ve known that Final Fantasy XVI will be a PS5 console exclusive when it launches in summer 2023. However, we weren’t told how long that period of exclusivity would last, at least until now. Precisely, a new PlayStation marketing montage the preview of the upcoming action RPG just revealed more.

In fact, the PS5 trailer “Play like never before” reveals after 15 seconds an excerpt from the game, under which it is stated that the title will be exclusive to the latest Sony console for a period of 6 months. So fans won’t have to wait long before they can enjoy the game on other platforms.

Final Fantasy 16 will soon be released on other platforms

A 6-month exclusivity period on PS5 means that the game will be available on other platforms in early 2024. Previously, Square Enix itself had accidentally indicated that a PC version of the upcoming RPG was in the works, so we imagine it will arrive early next year. The game is also expected to be available at the same time on Xbox Series X and S.

As a reminder, there was a year and a half difference between the release of Final Fantasy 15 on console and PC, and a similar delay was seen between the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PS4 and PC on the Epic Game Store. The swift release of the upcoming title on other platforms is therefore excellent news for fans of the series.

Regardless, during an interview with Famitsu, Final Fantasy 16 lead director Hiroshi Takai was asked about the current status of the latest installment in the legendary franchise. He said that the team had completed development a ” about 95% “. Therefore, we should know more quickly about it.

In the meantime, we invite you to watch the first trailer for the game, which was released two years ago, in September 2022.
