Gasly as a tweet announcing it in Alpine, the paddock lights up on Twitter

Pierre Gasly will soon be formalized as Alpine’s new driver, following Alonso’s departure from Aston Martin, according to the latest press reports. The different F1 teams, but also the interested party himself, reacted to a tweet announcing the news.

This is the tweet that lights up the twittosphere this Friday. The journalist Fabrizio Romano, more accustomed to reporting firsts on football signings, announced this Friday that Pierre Gasly had reached an agreement to join the alpine Formula 1 team from next season.

If there was still nothing official on Friday night, Alpine was not unmoved. The French team responded to Fabrizio Romano’s tweet with a very suggestive emoji. Pierre Gasly also reacted, with a much more explicit reaction. They both added a like to their likely future employer’s response, but also liked Fabrizio Romano’s tweet. Like a confession?

“Here we go”

AlphaTauri pilot since 2020, team with which he won the Italian GP in 2020, Pierre Gasly has been advertised in Alpine for several weeks. The formalization should take place in the next few hours, on the occasion of the Japanese GP this weekend. The Frenchman will replace Fernando Alonso, who will be at Aston Martin next year. The news did not fail to make the British team react, which publishes a photo where Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel (the two Aston Martin drivers) carefully observe their phones. As if to imply that they are scrutinizing the news.

In Mercedes, the news was received with much humor. The German team first wrote the message “here we go, we go, we go” in homage to the cult phrase of Fabrizio Romano. In a second step, the star’s brand published the image of a young man eating popcorn, as if to say that they are enjoying the show and that they are impatiently waiting for the formalization. On the side of AlphaTauri, which is preparing to formalize the arrival of Nyck de Vries to replace Pierre Gasly, is the policy of the ostrich: the Italian team has not reacted at all.

As a reminder, two months ago, the French alpine team formalized the signing of Oscar Piastri for the 2023 season. Finally, the Australian driver will drive for… McLaren. As of August 2, Alpine’s tweet is still online.
